During media tonight, we asked Feleipe Franks about the three turnovers he was responsible for on Saturday. He was open, candid and mature, I thought, in all of his answers.
Here's how he broke them down:
-The first fumble; it occurred during a RPO between he and Perine:
"I was trying to throw it to [Tre] Grimes. I tried to pull it, it just go mixed up. [Perine]
thought I was giving it. I was trying to pull it. Things we do every day. Just clean up. The percentage of that happening again in the season is very low. First game, get all those little mistakes out of the way. Play a very good defense, top four defense. Just get those little things cleaned up. That would have been a touchdown right there. There’s a couple of other plays that should have been touchdowns. Get those little things cleaned up and our offense will get rolling again.”
-The first interception:
There was some question as to whether Franks was trying to hit Swain or Cleveland with the pass. Cleveland was a couple of yards behind Swain and the ball was a bit high for Swain. Franks clarified the ball was intended for Swain and joked that if it was for Cleveland it would have still been a bad ball because then it would have been too short. All in all, he says that was a bad throw and route because Swain's route was supposed to be a little bit "flatter." He wasn't throwing Swain under the bus at all, just saying that it was something they could all learn from and do better next time.
-The second interception:
“On that play, I dropped back. Ultimately I was trying to throw the ball away. Somebody was right here on me and I was trying to get the ball over him to throw the ball out of bounds. I couldn’t get enough on it. I got pretty good arm strength, I would say. I tired to get it out, but at the end of the day there wasn’t even a route right there. So I didn’t throw it to him or didn’t throw it short. I just couldn’t get enough on it to get it out of bounds. I tried to make a smarter decision right there, but couldn’t get enough on it. But like I said, all across the board when it was time to show. And when it was time for the defense to show they showed up. They had our back just like we had their back when it was crunchtime and we needed points and when we needed to get a stop. So like I said, great team win, something to build off of. We’re 1-0 at the end of the day. We got guys in here that are willing to always put the team first. We have a great group of guys. Like I said, 1-0 and we’re looking forward to the next game.+
