In a major turn of events, quarterback Austin Simmons, who has been committed to the Gators since April, has flipped his commitment to Ole Miss and announced his plans to reclassify to the 2023 class.

Simmons was formerly a member of the class of 2025, but rumors have been circulating for weeks that he could reclassify to the 2023 class.
Earlier this week, reports came out suggesting that the reclassification was a done deal, but Simmons' family publicly discredited the reports and said that Simmons was still enrolled at Moore Haven to player spring football.
The four-star has been highly regarded as one of the top arms in the 2025 class but now makes a huge jump in an unprecedented move.
Florida appeared to have Simmons locked down for a few months after the Pahokee (Fl.) native announced his commitment in April. However, he took a visit to Lane Kiffin and the Rebels at the beginning of June and that quickly progressed into a potential flip. It was rumored that Simmons returned to Gainesville at some point after his Ole Miss visit, but it has not been confirmed.
The decision is an interesting one, as Simmons elects to join a quarterback room that has a lot more talent and experience than Florida's. The Rebels have an interesting quarterback situation on their hands, with transfers Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard joining three other quarterbacks on the roster fighting for the starting job. With the addition of Simmons, Ole Miss has six quarterbacks.
It was unclear from the start of the reclassification discussions exactly what Simmons' plan would be if he reclassified. The assumption was that he would not at all be in the starting conversation for this upcoming season, but he would gain the benefit of learning from the coaching staff and fellow quarterbacks.
Simmons' official announcement puts an end to a confusing saga that draws similarities to the Jaden Rashada situation that unfolded months ago.
The Gators 2025 recruiting class is again an empty canvas with their lone commit, Simmons, not only reclassifying but also flipping his commitment.
The move further affirms DJ Lagway as the Gators' future quarterback stud.
Keep in mind, the Gators host Ole Miss in 2024.

Ouch!
based on their QB room this has all the smell of an enhanced NIL deal and we all know HBC Napier will not renegotiate a NIL deal - nor should he
