BREAKING: MRI Confirms Grade 1 PCL Sprain for Gators WR Vernell Brown III

GAINESVILLE — Florida got the best news it could have hoped for on Vernell Brown III.
An MRI confirmed the initial diagnosis of a Grade 1 PCL sprain in Brown’s knee, sources told GatorBait. Any knee injury involving a ligament brings real concern, so this result is about as good as the Gators could have expected.
A Grade 1 sprain is the mildest grade. Sources say Brown shouldn’t miss many games, and possibly none at all. His return will depend on how his knee responds to treatment and how quickly it heals.
Playing this weekend may be a bit ambitious, sources said, but the door isn’t closed.
Brown, a sophomore from Gainesville, tweaked the knee late in the second quarter of Florida’s 52-28 win over No. 4 Ole Miss on Saturday. Afterward, coach Jon Sumrall said, “Nothing’s … substantial, nothing’s like torn,” but called it too early to know about his availability. Brown leads the Gators with 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns, according to the AP.
Brown’s status will be one of the storylines to watch as No. 8 Florida gets ready for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. ET game at No. 25 Missouri. GatorBait will have updates as they become available.
