With the transfer portal being among the most important parts of college football these days, it's crucial for coaching staffs to waste no time when it comes to offering players who have entered the portal.

Leading into spring practice ahead of this past season, Florida brought in a total of 10 transfers to join their squad as they prepared for the gauntlet ahead. With a dozen Gators already entered into the portal, expect a similar number, if not a higher number, to be the target for Billy Napier and his staff.
Here is a breakdown of prospects who have entered the portal that the Gators have given offers to:
Oregon S Trikweze Bridges
The former Oregon defensive back was a starter back in 2022 but saw his role diminish in 2023. Although he played five seasons with the Ducks, Bridges has one year of eligibility left and could be a candidate to fill the STAR role on Florida's defense. After announcing intentions to enter the portal on Dec. 5, Bridges has confirmed that the Gators have already offered him a scholarship.
Ohio State S Cameron Martinez
Graduate transfer Cameron Martinez is another defensive back the Gators have shown interest in early. The former four-star also saw his role diminished after productive seasons in 2021 and 2022 as a high-usage reserve in the secondary. Martinez only played 28 snaps in 2023, but nonetheless Florida has offered him a scholarship on Dec. 5.
Penn DT Joey Slackman
Among the most coveted portal players this cycle, Slackman has been offered a variety of Power 5 scholarships, including one from the Gators. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive lineman had 50 tackles on the season, including 12 for a loss and 4.0 sacks. Slackman has an official visit to Gainesville scheduled for December 8.
Kansas State CB Will Lee
With two years of eligibility left, Will Lee has been another target for the Gators' secondary. The former four-star made 32 solo tackles while also picking up six pass deflections, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 2023. In pass defense, Lee did not allow a single touchdown this past season.
The Gators have reached out to a variety of other players who have entered the portal since the window opened earlier this week. GatorBait Media will continue to provide updates as offers are confirmed.
Also, take note of the theme here, with a lot of attention to the defensive side of the ball. The Gators will return a lot more offensive talent and the current status of the class of 2024 also favors that side of the ball. Florida will have to rely on the transfer portal and landing/keeping a few other recruits in order to fill out the defense.

The NCAA is the most hipicritical outfit ever invented. All you you hear from them is play a difficult schedule and you will be rewarded. Ha ha. Florida played 7 ranked teams and was rewarded by sitting out the bowl season. liberty played none and was punished by playing in a New Year’s Day bowl. what a crock. Now we just got rewarded by maybe the hardest schedule for next year. What is this. Have always felt the SEC will screw us anytime they can. Maybe strip us of another SEC or natty .
I would hope we're in contact with Walter Nolen.
Agreed that our transfer portal targets at this time seem to be a bit vanilla. Better load up on the D and O lines! Would be nice for one of you great writers to look back and “grade” our 2023 transfer portal class and assess their production. Mertz was a stud obviously.
Two more guys who saw younger players take away their starting roles and seriously diminish their playing time. This does not encourage confidence that our coach and his staff will upgrade our roster via the transfer portal. Will Lee and Joey Slackman on the other hand look to be guys who can become difference makers or at least significant contributors.
