The Florida Gators, currently ranked 25th, are set to conclude a three-game homestand this Saturday, facing off against the Charlotte 49ers. Following a dominant 29-16 victory over the 11th-ranked Tennessee, Head Coach Billy Napier commended his team's performance but emphasized the need to sustain the momentum, cautioning against complacency after a heated rivalry win.
Napier said, "There’s a lot of football left to play here. I mean, we’ve just played three games. So, I know we want to put the crown on everybody, but we have much more to prove and we have lots of areas that we can get better. So, we’re looking for more consistency and we want our players to get better at their Sunday and Saturday routine."

He continued, "We can improve our attention to detail, we can execute better, and communicate better. And ultimately, we know that the best competition is ahead, and we have to eliminate the margin of error. That’s gotta be much smaller for us. So, I think overall, I’m excited about your evaluation there, but on the inside here, we have work to do and much to prove."
In the aftermath of the Florida-Tennessee game, an altercation unfolded as Tennessee's Omarr Norman-Lott made contact with Florida's quarterback Graham Mertz, who was in the process of taking a knee to end the game. Consequently, four players, including three from the Gators' roster, will face first-half suspensions in the upcoming game with Charlotte. Damieon George Jr., Micah Mazzccua and Dante Zanders will all be absent from the first half, while the Vols will also be without Omarr Norman-Lott for their game against UTSA.
Coach Napier reflected on the incident, stating, "These things are teachable moments. Ultimately hopefully we do enough on our part to teach ’em."
Other notable takeaways from the depth chart include the “or” term in between Trey Smack and Adam Mihalek’s name. Smack took over halfway through the Tennessee game after Mihalek looked poor to begin, Smack should have duties until further notice. Smack was one of the highest-rated recruits in his class at the position and will now look to handle both field goals and kick-off responsibilities.
In the injury report, OL Kingsley Eguakun, TE Tony Livingston, WR Ja’Markis Weston and WR Eugene Wilson are all listed as "OUT.” Kingsley made an immediate impact in his season debut last week as Florida dominated the trenches before he had a few setbacks in practice this week. Jake Slaughter will take the starting role along with true freshman Knijeah Harris gaining his first career start.
With the implications of injuries and suspensions, Coach Napier's inclination towards fielding young talent will be even more in play with the injuries and suspensions. Watch out for players such as Jordan Castell, Treyaun Webb, Dijon Johnson, T.J. Searcy, Kelby Collins and Will Norman all to see extended playing time.
