Florida Gators vs. Texas A&M Aggies: Halftime Notes and Observations

COLLEGE STATION, TX–The No. 4 Florida Gators lead 21-17 versus the Texas A&M Aggies. It’s a high powered offensive day in College Station, with little defense on either side.
The Gators defense has given up 7-7 on 3rd down and 240 yards to Kellen Mond and the Aggies.
The Gators offense—who got the ball first—has been efficient as well however. Opening with a 17-play, seven-and-a half minute drive, Kyle Trask found, who else, Kyle Pitts in the endzone for the opening score.
Mond answered to a wide open Chase Lane to tie the score at 7-all.
Trask drove the Gators right back down the field on a five play drive that concluded with a lofted pass to Kadarius Toney. After the catch, Toney was hit late out of bounds, leading to a defensive unnecessary roughness penalty against the Aggies. Toney came up ready to defend himself, but an official kept him calm while Trask defended his teammate and told Leon O’Neal (who made the hit) to keep away from Toney.
After a great tackle by freshman Tre’Vez Johnson on the kickoff, Texas A&M started the drive at their own 6-yard line. Which just made it all the more impressive when they easily drove 94-yards for the score.
Florida answered with a drive that heavily featured freshman running back Nay’Quan Wright. It was Wright who hit pay dirt to go up 21-14.
Texas A&M got the ball back with 4:14 to go and held it until halftime with a 14-play drive. Arguably the best defensive play of the day was a penalty against the Gators. On 2nd and goal from the 4, Kellen Mond was looking for his tight end Jalen Wydermyer in the endzone. Shawn Davis broke it up and was hit with a (very questionable) defensive pass interference call. By rule the ball had to be placed at the 2-yard line but with only four seconds remaining in the half, the Aggies settled for a field goal.

NOTES:
For the first time all season, safety Brad Stewart is available and has played.
Quarterback Emory Jones did not travel for and undisclosed reason. Freshman Anthony Richardson was in College Station however.
Kyle Field is hosting limited capacity but still has a good number of fans in the stands. This is Kassidy’s first trip to Aggie land and while I’d love to come back and see it at full capacity, it has been a cool experience thus far.
The fans have socially distanced upheld the Aggie War Hymn, which sees them lock arms and sway. The military precision to the cheers, abided by from the entire stadium and not just the cadets in the stands, is chill-inducing. This is definitely a one of a kind college football tradition.
