Florida Gymnastics wins at Auburn in SEC Opener

#7 Florida gymnastics goes on the road for the first time this season with an SEC matchup against the #12 Auburn Tigers. Both teams started the season last week with quad meets. UF at home against Fisk, George Washington and Talladega. Auburn, in Las Vegas, against Oklahoma, Michigan and UCLA.

Definitely a tough schedule for the Tigers as they finished third out of that group at 196.813. Florida won their quad meet with a 197.100 score. Florida with their young lineup would face a loud, raucous sold out crowd of 9,121 in Neville arena. Your road rotation is uneven bars, vault, floor exercise and balance beam. 6 gymnasts competing for the five highest scores.

Leanne Wong- the meet comes to the last competitor for Florida. Leanne needs a 9.8 to clinch the win or if she happens to unlikely fall would cost Florida the meet. Back flip series. Double back flip landing, sticks it. 9.875!

The Gators fend off a huge push by Auburn on their last rotation on the floor to win 197.325 to 197.025

Another nail biter in the Auburn series. In 2022 Auburn would tie Florida at 198.575. Their only non win that year until the one loss against Oklahoma in the finals. Leanne Wong takes home the all around title at 39.625 with Victoria Wynn 4th in the all around at 39.375

We saw seven freshmen scores this week down from 10 as Coach Rowland tinker’s with the lineup. Expect to see a lot of variety this year with the freshman class mixed in. Overall a solid win on the road. UF improves on their score from last week as they work to get better and better as the season moves through SEC competition. Next up #3 Alabama at home
