FLORIDA RECRUITING: 2024 Defensive Lineman Michai Boireau Decommits

The 2024 Florida recruiting class took a hit on Monday when three-star defensive lineman Michai Boireau announced his decommitment from the University of Florida.

Boireau made his announcement on Twitter and now the Hampton, Ga. native is expected flip to the in-state Georgia Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-5, 390-pounder committed to the Gators back in the middle of June, just over a week after taking an official visit to Gainesville. He had also taken an OV to Georgia the following week, which is part of the reason the Bulldogs are now favored to land Boireau.

Florida still holds the No. 3 ranked 2024 class despite the loss of Boireau, but the class does now lose some depth along the defensive front.

Boireau is ranked as the No. 67 defensive lineman in the class of 2024 by On3 and the No. 88 DL by 247Sports.

In other recruiting news, the firing of Michigan State's Mel Tucker may shake up some decisions not only for high school prospects but also current athletes. The NCAA allows athletes to enter the transfer portal up to 30-days after the coach is fired if they would like to talk with other teams.

While it remains to be seen if Florida will get in contact with any of these players, it is still notable that the Gators could find themselves getting some help from the Spartans if players look to leave the program.

In terms of high school prospects, the firing of Mel Tucker should help Florida in the recruitment of Jamari Howard who decommitted from Michigan State back in May. Despite his decommitment, the Spartans have remained a major player in his recruitment, although it would be fair to assume the coaching change will take Michigan State out of it.

Florida State has emerged as the favorite to land Howard, even earning a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction. Nonetheless, Florida has continued to pursue the Miami (Fl.) native.
