FLORIDA RECRUITING: Four-Star Jamonta Waller Ninth Commit of Week

Billy Napier and the Gators have been on an unbelievably hot streak this week, and it continued into Monday. After an extremely eventful Sunday, three more recruits announced their commitments to the Gators on Monday.

Four-star EDGE Jamonta Waller, who was on campus this past weekend, is the latest to verbally commit to the Gators. The Picayune High School (Ms.) prospect is a five-star according to 247Sports. He is the third five-star in the Gators' 2024 class per 247Sports' rankings.

Later Monday night, one of the other five-stars, Xavier Filsaime, announced his recruitment was shut down.

It appeared that Waller was beginning to lean towards Ole Miss, but nonetheless Florida came through and landed their ninth, yes ninth, commitment in the last seven days.

Waller, who is ranked as the No. 7 linebacker in the nation according to On3's industry rankings, has been a top priority for the Gators who have looked to add loads of depth on the defensive side of the ball.

Despite what may be considered a small frame for a traditional edge rusher or outside backer, Waller makes up for it with his strength, athleticism and wing span which provide him the tools to create separation.

He is also extremely quick and does not waste any movement when pursuing the ball or dropping into coverage. Although he is not regarded as a great defender in pass coverage, he does have the proper attributes to drop into coverage situationally.

In addition to football, the 6-foot-2, 230 pounder ran track and field participating in several sprints as well as the long jump and triple jump events.

With the addition of Waller, Napier has completely revamped the 2024 class and in the matter of just days. The On3 class rankings now have the Gators with the No. 2 rated class nationally. Meanwhile 247Sports has the class ranked third.

It's been an exciting few days for Gators fans who have finally seen the results of the "June Bloom" rolling in. However, it's not necessarily over as several prospects who have been on campus this June are yet to make their announcements.
