Gators make it four straight with sweep of Ole Miss
GAINESVILLE — No. 5 Florida used two decisive runs to brush aside Ole Miss on Sunday, completing a weekend without dropping a set and pushing its winning streak to four matches.
The Gators won 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 at the O'Connell Center, improving to 17-2 overall and 8-1 in the conference. They also swept LSU on Friday.
Ole Miss briefly found an opening in the second set, moving ahead 10-9. Florida answered with six consecutive points. Florida turned the one-point deficit into a five-point lead, then held the Rebels to 15 for the set.
Kamryn Chaney led Florida with 13 kills, and Alec Rothe added 11 while hitting .588. Rothe also had four blocks, giving the Gators a presence at the net to go with their finishing power.
Taylor Parks supplied 35 assists as Florida hit .393, compared with .128 for Ole Miss. The Gators finished with 45 kills and 12 attack errors; the Rebels had 30 kills and 18 errors.
Those margins mattered again in the third set. Ole Miss led 8-6 before Florida put together a 9-1 run, taking a 15-9 advantage and leaving the visitors chasing another substantial gap.
The Rebels later pulled within 21-18, but Florida won the final four points. Lily Hayes led the Gators with nine digs, while Jaidyn Hartsfield's nine kills paced Ole Miss, which fell to 8-12 and 2-7 in SEC play.
Florida's four-match run has taken it through road wins at Texas A&M and Texas, followed by the two home sweeps. Both Texas opponents were ranked when Florida beat them. The Gators will have to keep that form traveling as their schedule shifts away from Gainesville again.
Florida visits Auburn on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. ET in Neville Arena. The Gators return to the O'Connell Center to face Arkansas on Sunday, Nov. 1.
