Gators get a split to win series with Alabama

The most important thing that happened Friday for 2nd-ranked (by Baseball America) Florida (18-4, 2-1 SEC) was winning the opening Southeastern Conference series of the season. Coupled with their 3-0 win over No. 24 Alabama (17-4, 1-2 SEC) Thursday night when Brandon Sproat pitched a 1-hitter, the Gators’ come-from-behind 8-7 win over the Crimson Tide in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader assured a successful opening conference weekend.
