The Florida Gators' softball team has had one of the hottest starts in the nation. A large part of the Gators’ success has freshman phenom, Kendra Falby.

Falby, originally from Odessa, Fl., was a standout for her high school squad. She played on multiple Canadian national teams, earned medals and even was the 2019 Canadian junior athlete of the year. An outfielder, Falby is known for her instincts as not only a fielder but also a hitter to lead the #4 nationally ranked Gators.
She recently gained SEC Freshman of the Week Honors to add her to the tall list of accolades, two weeks in a row. Most recently Falby also shared the award with Georgia’s Kylie Macy. The Odessa native turned in four multi-hit games over the span of a week and scored at least once in all six games.
In addition to producing 10 hits throughout the week, Falby also showcased her outfielder speed on the bases with six total bases stolen.
“I came in with the mindset I am a freshman, just come in earn your spot, work hard, and honestly it’s paid off,” said Falby.
Despite being a freshman, Falby boasts an astounding above .500 average at the plate, leading the Gators. Falby is also the team leader in hits as well up to this point in the season with 34.
“I’ve always been kind of a fast kid, so taking that into softball and how quick the game is, it is all kind of combined together,” Falby said.
At week’s beginning, Falby led the team in stolen bases with 19 (along with Skylar Wallace). When asked how she gained her speed she said that she ran track in middle school and cardio has always been a main focus of hers.
Falby and the rest of this talented Gators squad look destined to make another deep postseason run. Many more years of success are in the future thanks to Coach Tim Walton and his staff having put together one of the best young and talented rosters in the country.
