Florida Gator recruiting gathered huge momentum this week when they flipped one of the state’s top recruits from FSU in Roderick Kearney, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound interior lineman from Orange Park.
Kearney is the third offensive lineman the Gators have been able to get during this recruiting cycle and his choice provided a massive momentum shift for this 2023 cycle.
Kearney made his commitment to Florida State on June 26, just two days after his official visit to Florida. Nonetheless, the Gator staff held strong and consistent with Kearney throughout his recruitment and was able to help him realize he had a better future in Gainesville.
Kearney stresses the importance of little tidbits which he gleans from film study. He was named the offensive line MVP of the Under Armour All-America Camp in Miami earlier this year and has led his high school team to the playoffs the past two seasons.
Kearney fits Napier’s scheme perfectly. At Orange Park, Kearney spearheaded one of the most lethal rushing attacks in the state. The run-heavy offense along with the spread attack meshes well with Napier’s vision of Florida’s offense.
Now, other big news is looming.

THIS IS EXPECTED NEXT: CORMANI HEADED TO GATORS?
Cormani McClain, the #2 overall player in the nation, is set to make his commitment tomorrow in Lakeland and looks like he will be a Gator.
McClain has the opportunity to be the highest rank Gator recruit since Martel Ivey (#2 overall player) in 2015. Florida is the favorite to land the 6-foot-2 defensive back, although Alabama and Miami are also in the mix to land the top defensive player in the 2023 class.
GatorBait’s Kyle Curtis will be in Lakeland for the announcement and to provide live coverage.
