Florida Gators' Princely Umanmielen Wins Defensive Player of the Week 2023

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Oct. 9, 2023 — Florida EDGE Princely Umanmielen has been named the East-West Shrine Bowl Defensive Breakout Player of the Week, following the Gators' Week 6 contest against Vanderbilt.

According to data from Pro Football Focus, Umanmielen has tallied 10 tackles, two sacks, eight quarterback hits and 15 quarterback hurries over the course of the 2023 season. Four of those quarterback hurries were registered in the Week 6 match-up against Vanderbilt.
The Manor, Texas, native has distinguished himself in the area of pass rushing, earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 90.3. Among Division I EDGE defenders, Umanmielen currently ranks fifth nationally in pass rush grade.
In terms of overall performance, Umanmielen holds the highest Pro Football Focus grade of any Florida defender who has taken more than 25 snaps this season, with a grade of 81.5.
The junior player is expected to continue his season as the Florida Gators prepare for an away game against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina, scheduled for Oct. 14.
