UPDATE: Since this story was published, there have been further reports saying that Austin Simmon's father has denied these allegations. Simmon's has still yet to officially enroll and arrive on campus. Stay tuned in to GatorBaitMedia.com for the latest.
In a move that solidifies Florida football's quarterback room for 2023, Austin Simmons has made the decision to reclassify to the 2023 class. With lingering questions surrounding the position, particularly with the departure of Anthony Richardson, the Gators were in need of more depth to the room.
The reclassification has been a possibility, with the rumor swirling around following the spring game when Billy Napier said that one more quarterback will be added to the room before the season begins.

While Graham Mertz is expected to take the helm in week one, Napier has emphasized the team's intention to bolster the quarterback room this fall. However, instead of pursuing transfer quarterbacks, the Gators have found a solution within their own ranks with the addition of Austin Simmons.
The 2025 recruit has been making waves not only on the field but also in the classroom. Having graduated in his freshman year, Simmons has been diligently working on completing his college credits. It's important to note that he should be entering his junior year in high school, yet he has been exclusively focused on college courses, close to his AA degree.
Simmons' football dominance matches his academic achievements. On3's Industry Rankings have recognized him as the 72nd-best player in the 2025 cycle, the fourth-best quarterback, and the 12th-best player from Florida. Standing at 6'1", he possesses excellent height for a young quarterback, allowing him to see downfield and deliver accurate deep passes with consistency.
With Simmons joining the Gators, he immediately brings the best arm talent to the quarterback room. However, there will naturally be questions about whether he is ready to start and lead the team at such a young age, two years ahead of schedule.
Initially reported by Josh Newberg, citing Keith Niebuhr of On3, the news surrounding Simmons' reclassification appeared to be unofficial. However, recent developments confirm that he will indeed be heading to Gainesville this fall.
This is a significant development for the Gators, providing them with an additional option at the quarterback position as the team progresses through camp. It also highlights the fact that Austin Simmons may possess even greater potential than previously believed. His presence adds depth and competition to the quarterback room, offering exciting possibilities for the future of Florida football.

Really hope the parental issues are worked out. Would really love to have this young man representing Florida Football & Baseball!
