Gators in the NFL: Ventrell Miller Tears Achilles, Dean Cut by Jets

Ahead of the NFL's regular season kickoff in a little over a week, it's time to take a look at which former Gators have secured themselves spots on NFL rosters.
The Jacksonville Jaguars took a big hit defensively after rookie Ventrell Miller tore his achilles. He will miss the entirety of the 2023-24 season. Miller was one of the stars of Florida's defense this past season and arose as one of the core leaders of the team as well.
Miller had undergone surgery for a fracture in his foot ahead of the draft process and was taken by the in-state Jaguars in the fourth round. He had been in contention to earn a spot on the roster as a backup linebacker, but will now have to undergo a grueling recovery process before he hits the field.
In other news, Trey Dean was cut by the Jets on Monday as part of their efforts to get down to the 53 player roster limit.
Ventrell is one of the most impressive, thoughtful and engaging young men you could meet. Just a ten-minute conversation about the Gators’ Hall of Fame members, but his courtesy and interaction still resonate. Certainly we all hope his recovery goes well and enables his resumption of an NFL career. Afterward, though, if he wants it, a future in coaching would be very credible.
