You may say the AR 15 era has begun -- again.
Anthony Richardson made his professional debut in the Colts' first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Aug. 13. Wearing No. 15, he started and played three series, completing seven of 12 pass attempts for 67 yards and an interception. He also ran for 12 yards on two carries. His interception came on his first drive, when he tried to hit wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on a deep pass, but was picked off by Bills cornerback Levi Wallace.
Richardson said he was not discouraged by his mistake, and that he learned from it. He said he felt confident in his abilities and that he was grateful for the opportunity to play.
"I just have to be more careful with the ball and make better decisions," Richardson said after the game. "I think I did some good things out there, but I also have some things to work on. I'm just happy to be here and to get some reps with the team."
Richardson did not play in the Colts' second preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 18, as he was recovering from a minor procedure that he underwent earlier in the week. The Colts said the procedure was not serious and that Richardson was expected to return to practice soon.
Minshew started against the Bears and led the Colts to a 24-17 victory. He completed 14 of 18 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns, and also ran for 19 yards on three carries.
The Colts' decision to sit Richardson was partly influenced by Bears defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who used to coach for the Colts and is known for his aggressive schemes. The Colts did not want to expose Richardson to unnecessary risk or pressure in his second game.
However, Richardson did get some valuable experience by participating in two joint practices with the Bears earlier in the week. He said he enjoyed going against a different defense and learning from his teammates and coaches.
"It was fun to see how they play and how they react to different situations," Richardson said of the Bears. "I think it helped me grow as a player and as a person. I'm always trying to improve and to learn from everyone around me."
Richardson's preseason debut was promising for the Colts, who are hoping to find their future franchise quarterback in him. Richardson has impressed many observers with his poise, arm strength, and mobility, which he showcased at Florida.
Anthony Richardson is the Colts' starting quarterback. Head coach Shane Steichen announced after the Colts' Tuesday training camp practice that Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, will be the team's starting quarterback for the 2023 regular season.
The Colts will open their regular season against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 10 at Lucas Oil Stadium

Love the website and all the inside reporting but just a little constructive criticism. I’m pretty sure Anthony said last year that he didn’t like and would not be using that nickname, think it would be a great idea to honor his wishes….Thanks again for all the great content…
