Florida roster rebuild: Gators have 78 veterans, freshmen and jucos

It was another productive weekend in the portal for Florida coach Jon Sumrall, who added Auburn wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., Georgia Tech tight end Luke Harpring and Southwestern Oklahoma State punter Miller Fealy. That brings Florida’s roster totals to 59 veterans and 19 freshman/jucos. Sumrall has as many as 27 more scholarships available to reach the NCAA maximum of 105.

Here is a position-by-position breakdown of what the Gators need to add:

Quarterback (3): Four on scholarship is a necessity. Five is a luxury.

Running Back (5): Six would be a luxury but maybe someone who is more slot than RB?

Wide Receiver (9): Need two more at a minimum, but four more would be nice.

Tight end (5): Need one more since signee Kent might move to tackle.

O-line (19): Need 2-4 more veterans since six of the 18 are freshmen.

D-line/EDGE (12): Veteran tackles are a necessity. At least three.

Linebackers (6): Four more is a necessity, especially linebackers who are skilled in coverage.

Secondary (15): Spread offenses require lots of corners, so minimum of three more.

Special teams (4): Need backup kicker, punter
